I took these photos over a year ago, for a post that never got written. A post about how we surround ourselves with too many possessions, so many things we don't need, so many things that hold us in one place. Cupboards and boxes full of things I love but have no immediate use for. I was carefully considering, if I could only keep twelve items from my home to start over again, which twelve would I take? I'm talking personal possessions not clothes people pets (they are a given) just the extras. What do we really need, some good memories, light, a pastime, heirlooms. Things that mean something, things with a past life and a secret story. I think if I chose again this year I would pick the same, with one addition my Moroccan tea pot, because you need a soothing cup of tea wherever you are, no?
Would you be able to narrow it down to just twelve? Take a picture of your 12 most treasured possessions and email it to me, I will post the best ones and send out a pretty parcel to my favourite. Happy Sunday everyone.

I don't think I can do it. But I might try! I have feelings of panic just thinking about it actually-though I have been thinking a lot about this issue recently as my house reaches critical mass of stuff!
That's really something you need to think about... just 12 most treasured possessions! O my! :)
I will look in to it & I'll try to take a picture!
Wow what a lovely idea! I'm going to try and do this tomorrow! :) Though it's easier for me because I'm only 19 and only have one room of stuff! xx
What a beautiful idea. I am inspired and am going to try and do it this week. New to finding your blog recently, and added you to my blogroll after just one visit. Thanks for your lovely inspiration and writing!
oh!!! that's hard! Good thought......I will try and if I succeed I will send you a picture.
Erika=]
I will be doing this. I'm excited. I'll let you know when I photograph them.
Very impressive!
Thanks for your presentation and I appreciate that!
Keep up your good work. I will come here regularly for news.
That is a challenge! I have been on a constant clearing out mission for the last 6 months, but hadn't considered a definitive amount of things to keep. Hmmm... will have to have a think.
Have a great week.

Now this is a lovely challenge I believe I'm up to taking....
What a fantastic project; great idea. It might take a while for me to whittle it down as I am a notorious hoarder!
I can't join in because I'm in the process of moving... AGAIN... but as I lugged cases and bags up stairs last night I thought to myself I need to have less things- and yet I tried to de clutter before moving and I do genuinely want all these things, well many of them. I am at a point now where I don't want to move anymore- I want all my things in one place and to be able to stay there for some time.
Oh... sorry I can´t find your e-mail address? Do you mind writing it again?
this is such a lovely idea, i wonder what my 12 things would be if i really had to think about it! i'll see if i can come up with something :)
That is something, we are trying to put into practice, it is food for thought, as we let things go...
Love this idea..I may make that my goal today at work( yes, instead of focussing on work..I'm terrible) I've been thinking lately about all of the "things" we think we need to have -starting with the desire to go antiquing and redecorate..my husband pointed out how unneccecary it was and its really made me think!! thanks for sharing! I am definitely going to take this challenge !
OOh fab - I'm in! It will be a stuggle to narrow it down but I'll try...
i love this!!! we can become such terrible pack rats... have a great week!
It is indeed true what you say.Isn't it strange how we like to hold onto things, hoping that one day we will need them?Maybe we just feel like they replace an empty space inside our soul...I'll try to find those 12 things...
I live in a small studio apartment so I feel that I'm already living with a lot less, esp when compared to when I lived in a large 2 bedroom apartment.
I'm looking around right now and everything I see, while it would hurt me to lose, I don't think would be on my list.
The ONLY thing is a set of vintage mixing bowls that belonged to my grandma. It's a nesting set in white with pink and teal prints on alternate bowls.
was an article I liked. Thanks for sharing....
i love this post. really makes you think. xo!
I love this...I've just picked 12 things and I'm going to take picture tomorrow.
It was nice to stop for a while and think what's really important and what I thought I can't live without.
Hi everyone if you want to take part and couldn't find my email address
its lobsterandswan[at]yahoo[dot]com
have fun!
I'd LOVE to be part of this. I will have to photograph and send through tomorrow. Hope that's not too late xx
Brilliant idea! We have things that keep us company through out the years without even realising it. Time to pay some respect to them!
Wow, this could be hard. Just 12 things.... we are very big collecters of all things in this house, lots of special things from grandparents, parents and our own childhoods. I'll see how I go.
This is really interesting to think about. I'm sure I can do it but I wonder what I'll choose. Can a book collection count as one item?
just came across your blog through le voyage creatif...love this idea and love your photos! i'm sure it's too late for me to submit my 12, but happy to be enjoying everyone else's :)
