Sharing

Thanks for all your encouraging and inspiring comments, it is amazing to hear how many of you already have or are about to make the jump to spend more time doing the things you love. Its not about money or an easy life either, its clearly about spending most of your time doing what truly makes you happy, even if that means working longer hours for a lower income. A better quality of life. I don't want to look back and wonder why I never attempted to follow my dreams and with the support I have from my family and friends and all of you here it seems as though anything is achievable.

With valentines day fast approaching and as a special thank you to you all for making such interesting reading in the comments section, today seemed the perfect day to share something with you, I have one pair of these lovely red and white Cornish ware mugs to give away. Just leave a comment below and I will randomly pick out one name on Sunday the 14th of February. Good luck!

For more information about T.G Green’s famous Cornishware pottery range and why they have traded in their signature blue for this bright cherry red to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2010 or to order a set these bespoke red and white striped ‘Love Cups’ which come nestled in a beautiful gift box, each containing a little bag of handmade chocolates, visit T.G Green.

didn't reply to your last post. It made me really think about what I am doing, but I couldn't quite articulate a response.

Here's hoping that 2010 will be a year of fulfilment and good things.

I recently made a decision to change the direction of my life - towards doing something more fulfilling, teaching. It will mean a financial strain as my boyf and I are planning to buy a house this year too, , , eek. But worth it in the long run im sure.

Those mugs are adorable - and if i was lucky enough to win them it would mean one less thing to buy for the kitchen! ;)

Indeed, quality life means being happy with what you do for a living. I hope to ahve your courage one day and do the same. I'm looking forward to seeing your results! Good luck!

I gave up my day job (which was actually a day through to night job -touring with a theatre company) over two years ago. It was such a breath of fresh air to finally make that decision.
I wanted to concentrate on my own work but, isn't it always the way, the minute I had MY time I was inundated with freelance work - most of it for the company I had just left!
I didn't mind though because it was MY choice to do the work!
I love visiting your blog, your photos and work are truly inspirational and a ray of sunshine! More of the same can only be a good thing. Best of luck with everything.

ooohhh... those cups are lovely. but I'm from Israel :) Is that too far?

About the job - I feel it's always the good choice to make... I'm a student right now, and trying to figure out what am I going to do with my degree in Art History and Psychology (I don't want to do psychology, the art world is really what interests me... but over here, it's no sure future...) anyway - I just believe that when you do what you like and you're good at it - then good things will happen, for sure.

I wish you all the best, and thank you for your lovely and inspiring blog.

"let the beauty of what you love be what you do" Rumi, is a quote I find inspirational. Sometimes it's tricky to get the balance right ( and still earn some pennies!), but I have evry confidence in you. Go for it!

Congratulations, It sounds like a wonderful opportunity. As much as I enjoy my day job, it's not something I want to do for the rest of my working life, I hope one day I can be in a secure enough financial position where I can cut down my hours(ideally quit altogether) and focus on dream of being self employed and spending my days creating. Goods luck to you, I know your amazing talent you will have complete success. X

I have always loved making things and did a lot when my children were young. Now I am retired from teaching and started a blog with my children, who are scattered worldwide, to share inspirational things or anything we have made. It has opened a whole new world for me and I am so inspired by the number of talented and interesting people all over the world. I visit your blog regularly and love it and the wonderful things you make. I wish you all the luck in the world with your new venture and will follow with interest. I am still making by the way!

I left my job to work for myself a long time ago and it was terrifying, we just had a new mortgage and it was a bit of a spur of the moment, now or never type of decision! I can't say it has always been easy but I've never once regretted it. My partner left his job a few years later & we now work together. You will do brilliantly if this blog is anything to go by.

Lovely mugs! And congrats on your transition. I think about the topic often, and hope in the coming years I will be able to make a similar transition. Even if it's just working part-time in the corporate world and part-time working on my own passions.

You are an inspiration. ♥

I, too, appreciate the trend we're seeing towards seeking (creating?!) more fulfillment in our lives by making decisions and taking steps in the direction of our dreams...

Like so many others, we're making moves big and small to the lives we want - a career change that meant less money for a time but more happiness, a move to a house in the country (this Friday, squeek!), ridding ourselves of so much excess and truly appreciating what we do have - life is a work in progress, and every moment is an opportunity.

The red and white mugs? Perfect for wifey and I to sip coffee by the wood stove on cold winter mornings!

xox,
Susan

Hello Lobster, hello Swan.
If only we could all be lucky enough to know what it is that we should do. So many options in this world are wonderful, but bad for we that have decision-making issues... Thank you for helping to inspire the artists in all of us, at least.
And thank you for the raffle. Those are beautiful mugs, and entering raffles is always so exciting, no matter what :)

PS the red TG Green mugs will go great with my blue collection. :)

I just refused the offer of a higher grade job at a higher salary because I realised (it can be so easy to forget) that my boyfriend of 10 years is the most important thing in my life.

Sounds easier said than done, but I feel soooo much better for the decision. Totally recommend going for the heart, not the brain.

I love those mugs!

It's great to read that so many people have given you the thumbs up for your future plans - you've got such a good idea for beautiful things that whatever you decide to do will be a success, I am sure.
These mugs are gorgeous - I wish they did the red stripe in all their kitchen ware.
Have a happy week,

Thank you so much for posting this. On first viewing your blog I knew it was the muses of a kindred spirit. I have just completed my post graduate studie. I am now in that time in my life where I actually decide what it is that i should and want to do with my life. The consumer age we live in, and the perpetuated idea that money induces happiness and a carefree lifestyle stops one from persuing something they want to do regardless of its pay.

Your words add wind into my sails.

Thank you

I'm dreaming of a new life, and tentatively setting up my own company. I'm trying to be good and be very detailed in my business plan, and have an appointment with a business adviser etc etc, but sometimes the idea of earning less money - with mortgages and...LIFE, is all just too scary. Thank you for your everyday inspiration, it brings me sunshine.

I just read your last post, and found it inspiring. I'd love to figure out how to step back from my teaching and dissertation. To be fair, I love what I do, but sometimes I want more time to just step back and do other things that I enjoy. I need some more time to think about how to make it all work, though.

I'd love to get in on your drawing. Those mugs are lovely.
