Cherry and Minnie

I have been seeing and reading lots about this beautiful blog everywhere. Looks like a fun place to spend some time in 2009.

little stitches

Home and just enough time to stitch my last few gifts for Christmas and finish writing cards to hand deliver. I would like to say thanks to all the sweet folk who sent me surprise cards. I don't know where my head has been these last few weeks, I am afraid I did not get myself organized enough to send cards overseas. But I have a little plan to return these kind thoughts. : )

Three sisters and a birthday.

Sisters. In a splendid hotel. Out at a show. Eating burgers and chilli fries way too late at night. Walking all over town. Shopping for treats. Sleepy on the train home. Sisters together having the best time.

sweet butterfly

A forgotten lunch turned out to be my fortune today as I came home to retrieve it and found a lovely card from sweet Kat waiting for me and enough daylight to capture some of my favorite things at the moment. As I said earlier I am spending the weekend with my sisters. I will be back Sunday and hope to update over here at some point too. My festive posts seem to have gone to pot! Have a great weekend where ever you are. Eat drink and be merry.

light to function

Sorry if things are a little quite here. After such a perfect Saturday and Sunday, this weeks darkness is getting me down, no time to take pictures as I am at work all day. But things are looking up, my sister arrives today from Ireland and I have another long awaited weekend off to spend with family.
I have also discovered one of my friends (Hayley, above) has a beautiful singing voice.

The fairest tree of them all

Ok I know I said I was going, and I am but I couldn't leave without telling you about my favorite flickr picture today. How clever is this stunning tree by ATLITW. I am so in awe.
We are not at home this Christmas so don't have a tree this year (for the first time ever.) I am a little sad about it but I'm sure I'll recover. This however is such an amazing alternative to a traditional tree, beautiful, space saving, no picking pines out of your socks for the next six months. I LOVE it!

Twinkle and sparkle

Adding a sprinkle of festiveness to the house before I go away again. Just a few twinkles, candles and garlands. I love preparing for Christmas. Hope you have a lovely weekend, whatever you are doing.

Dresses for dessert?

Galliano sprinkles a ton of fairy dust at Dior. I nearly shed a tear at the thought of never getting to try one of these gowns on. I wish everyone dressed like this! Chiffon, silk, tulle, sparkle, caramel, violet, mint, vanilla cream, chartreuse and rose. I could be back reading the menu at Laduree.

Namolio

In her own words "Photographer and graphic designer by day, artisan by night." These beautiful works are from namolio over at Etsy. Namolio stocks all manner of lovely things, handmade items like these pin cushions and supplies of linen, textured, woven, plain, ribbons and trims. Its hard to know what to chose. I think I will order my next batch of fabric from here, but for now I have snapped up this charcoal linen and crochet lace pin cushion. I can't wait to receive it.

Winter spices.

Thank you for all your sweet comments from my previous posts, feels like ages since then. I have been away in Gloucester for a couple of days visiting with my Granny where we walked in the forest, learnt about the old local mines, followed deer tracks and collected pine cones.

Then on to Bath to visit the christmas market, mulled wine, hot caramel nuts, christmas spirit, if I'm truthful I did not brave the wine, many of my fellow shoppers had it streaming over their hands as they were jostled in the crowd. I hate having sticky hands so that was a no go. I think I will make some warm spiced cider and consume it in the safety of my own home.
The crowds were a bit daunting at first, but a shot of hot chocolate and some sweet peanuts were perfect fuel, just the sugar fix to keep us going, and we soon got used to the busy town centre. Away from the crowds we explored quieter streets and found some lovely shops. Like Susannah the antique store pictured below. It was like a beautiful doll's dressing up box, glass cake stands, pretty vintage florals, old oil paintings, lace, a warm open fire crackling in a Victorian fireplace. I wanted to stay in there forever. The lady herself was as remarkable as her wares.

My most favorite thing in Bath though, was the houses. Grand Georgian homes built from beautiful cream coloured soft stone. I did see a few empty shops there too. Maybe I can relocate sometime soon? Hope you had a fun weekend too.

Mrs Flax, tights and okra

Beautiful gift tags above from 3 girls and a goat over at Etsy.

I think I have been tagged by four or five different people. But I have been a bad blogger and lost track of who and when. Please speak up if it was you? I'm not rude just a bit forgetful. and obviously I have been doing very important stuff like dressing up etc!

So seven things?

When I was much younger I used to watch The film Labyrinth, every day. I had a huge crush on David Bowie. Only now do I see the wrong in this. Those tights! What was he and I thinking?! But boy oh boy did I want that crystal Barbie style dress that Jennifer Connelly wore to the Masquerade Ball. I still love the song that plays in that scene now.

I consider myself to be a well behaved dinner guest. I will eat most things unless you serve me mussels, okra or mushrooms.

I used to go to ballet classes and loved it until my teacher insisted I sing "Happy talkin, talkin, happy talk" alone on stage for the local music festival. I refused and that was my last day. A singer I am most definitely not.

I'm not so good at time keeping. I hate being chained down. Don't wear a watch. Don't care if my mobile is charged. I like to be free. In my own little world.

Due to the happenings in my previous post we are having fried breakfast for dinner today. I am normally quite a healthy eater and like to cook epic dinners, but the novelty still hasn't worn off that I can choose anything at all to put in our shopping basket! Although Dean does not get enthused at the thought of cereal or just a bowl of mashed potatoes and peas for an evening meal, I do! When he is away I sometimes just eat marshmallows or citrus fruits for supper. Today I have eaten an advent calendar's worth of chocolate.

It seems as though I am making out the husband to be a bit of a grump. But he is lots of fun, wouldn't have married him otherwise!. He is however quite a realist so living with someone not unlike a combination of a christmas elf and Cher's kooky character Mrs Flax from the film Mermaids (who doesn't love a star shaped sandwich in their packed lunch?). Maybe it's hard for him sometimes. : )

I hate zombies. They really turn my stomach. I couldn't even watch that silly film "Shaun of the dead" because zombies really make me feel sick. I find the undead so chilling. Maybe it has to do with all the moaning, arms outstretched and shuffling feet. Yuck. Makes me shiver just to write about it!

Its hard to know who to tag I have met so many wonderful people just lately , sorry if you have already been asked, but I'd love to learn more about you. . . . . . . Theresa and Eva-Maria, Michiko, Brittany, Manon, Lynn, Kelly, and Jane plus anyone else who wants to chime in?!

(lot of links here too so if I've mixed up the names just let me know.)

Really, I am going now to polish off the last of those macaroons.

A swish of tulle

This afternoon whilst tidying I dug out my favorite vintage dresses from the back of a cupboard. I spent some time messing about and dressing up. My husband probably won't think this is the best way to spend an afternoon (especially as I forgot all about dinner. It's still frozen, oops!) Sometimes I don't know how he puts up with me. My head is half in today half in a thousand old Hollywood musicals.
But I promised to show some of my dresses to Sofia so here they are. I'm thinking they would look nice paired with some of her wonderful necklaces?

Sweet almond clouds

A new obsession. The most exquisite tasting Vanilla, Rose petal, Pistachio, Chestnut, sweet almond clouds. Beautiful, but not too pretty to eat. They lasted just long enough for me to take a picture.
