Womans best friend?

Good old Ralph Lauren home never fails to inspire. And I love the colour and texture mix in these pictures. Faded florals, patched denims, homely mutt. I am seeing a recurring theme with dogs around here, you can't beat a friendly hound when needing to add personality and warmth to a home setting. I have almost been tempted myself, I do love dogs and their cheeky personalities, if it wasn't for allergies, and If only they didn't molt. There is nothing glamourous about living life in a flurry of pet hair. And no I don't want a labradoodle.

I am well aware that I may be sucking all the joy out of having a dog with this post but I have to keep perspective. Maybe once I own that country cottage and go about my daily daily life wearing wellies and a wax jacket, maybe then it will be time for a dog. This one is already winning me over and it would be nice to have a little someone to keep me company on dark winter walks, especially when the husband is away. I would get a rescue dog. I have a friend who works at Battersea dogs home. I could bake home made dog treats and sew him a patch work bed. I can't look into this ones eyes anymore I think he knows.

Dark streets v cosy home

Update. Not really one to make excuses, maybe sometimes I should spare peoples feelings? A few of my friends invent elaborate stories as to why they can't make it to things that they have been invited to. Don't say you have to help your dad move house then get caught lunching at a country pub with someone else! Selfish old me, I will just say I don't want to go.
Anyway the long and the short of it is my sister has bailed on me tonight so I'm not going to the surprise party. I didn't need much persuading, I was back in my joggers within two minutes of her call.

Friday feeling

Why when I am supposed to be at a surprise party in an hour, am I wrapped in a blanket taking bare faced self portraits, playing this flickr game?
I have procrastination down to a fine art. As soon as I get in I just wanna stay put. But I really should make the effort to interact with real people I suppose. There is also a chance I might dance off a few of the pounds of chocolate I have consumed in my husbands absence.

I'm wishing you all a fabulous weekend.

Friday morning sunshine found at Baggu seen here Its fun to pick your favorites and make your own colour collections.
Now I just have to decide which ones?

Harvest festival

Where I'd rather be. I love how the models, products and scenery all blend together to form one fabulous bohemian Autumn/Winter soiree. Join the party at Gucci

Whimsical walnut mill

The lovely Sam, one of my etsy customers, has sent me a picture of the sweet folk she created at a recent Julie Arkell workshop. I am beaming to see the antique lace from the collection Sam bought being used as part of the outfit for her creation. I expect it was easy to be inspired surrounded by such scenery, part meadow part english country garden, set in the grounds of a fourteenth century french walnut mill. Its just breathtaking. Rooms can be rented here for bed and breakfast so you can also stay in these beautiful grounds.

I too love ban.do They are all so pretty. So I picked my four favorite favorites. Dare you to try and find one you don't like!

Starbucks on every corner

Car ride. Dark city. Late night. Hot chocolate. Can't sleep. Up early. Get lost. Meet new people. Team building. Sharing stories. Presenting facts. Silly games. Scheduled bathroom breaks. Old buildings. Hot tube stations. Catching up with good friends. Thai food. Evening streets. Dripping tap. Deep sleep. Big breakfast. Black cab. Laughing lots. Learn a little more. Farewell. Train home. Super glad to be back in the peace and calm of my own home and familiar bed.

Smart casual

The husband has gone to Sunny LA and Vegas. Is it wrong that I am wrapped in a blanket with the heating cranked, devouring a box of chocolates and watching Master and commander? Sometimes you just need an epic film combined with the woozy feeling one gets after eating too much chocolate to complete your day. And Russell Crowe grubby but charismatic is a little bonus I guess. Though fifteen minutes in and this film is taking a rather gloomy turn. Might have to turn it off after all.

Saturday nights in are so rubbish. They (the TV people) must figure its the most popular night to go out, so the poor sober fools like me get stuck with Russell and some terrifying below deck surgery or Match of the day. This is why everyone I know is drinking in town.

I'm off to London for some kind of training for a few days. I will miss you and all your blogs. Another room filled with new faces. A bit more corporate garbage. Dress smart casual. Surely one contradicts the other? I'll just have to suck it up. That lottery win is elusive as ever. Enjoy your weekend. Be back Tuesday to catch up.

Note to husband:- I will be out most of the week so I'm only busting the heating bill tonight : )

Berries and bracken

After popping into town yesterday to drop off some more possessions to charity and treat myself to my bi-annual manicure. I grabbed a hot buttery jacket potato from the take away stand on my way back home. Then settled down in a blanket with my potato an the new issue of country living. Many Autumn pages later and feeling inspired I finished off one of eight wreaths I am making for a local shop that stocks a few of my things.

Last day of summer

I have to work three out of every four Saturdays and Dean is off to Vegas for a trade show next weekend. So I think this will be the last summer day out for us. Long drive. Beach walk. Pebbles and sand dunes. Hot coffee. A jar of dark chocolate biscuits that I managed to fit into my oversized handbag. Hope you are all enjoying the final days of this brief season.

Next time all the leaves will be red turning brown and we will walk in the woods. I am thinking of investing in a pair of these boots for each of us. Practical and cosy. It does get very muddy and quite treacherous in the woods around here. Think I might draw the line at the matching waxed attire?

Its officially Autumn, Toast says so.

What a great day. Toast launched their Autumn Winter house and home collection today, I know I don't even have to tell you that I love it all. Cosy socks, sparkly cushions, faded florals all to be enjoyed amidst the gentle flicker of bee's wax candles. I'm already there.

Sweet tooth

Gave in to my sugar cravings on my way home. There is a retro style pick and mix cart in the shopping centre that I walk by to and from work every day. I don't usually eat these kind of toxic sweets. But today I thought what the hell!?

family fortunes

Its my day off today. For starters a 6.30 jog with the husband and I didn't moan too much. I feel like I hinder him slightly as I know he gets a proper run if I'm not there dragging behind! He's much fitter than me. Plus I left my inhaler at home. Not that I really need it. Since I stopped smoking two years ago my childhood asthma has vanished and my breathing is better than ever it was. Its more of a-I panic if I don't have it with me thing. Silly really, though I wont forget it next time. It makes me shudder to think that I ever smoked.

Moving swiftly on, two nice things this morning. A hand delivered letter from my sister containing this lovely shabby rose necklace that she made for me. I will wear it to work. I hope it will form some kind of protective barrier around me reflecting the negative energy that the general public seem so persistent in forcing on me. Thank you Tamzin. Then marshmallows for breakfast. Portioned out into a cup so I don't eat so many I feel sick. If you're in a marshmallow frame of mind yourself see these delights from Cloudbird I'm thinking Hazelnut or Earl grey. I hope to attempt making some of my own for christmas gifts, orange and cinnamon maybe? I am somewhat afraid of boiling sugar.

Staying warm

A wet weekend spent hiding here at home in the warm. Ate some fish and chips with one friend. Then chased away some of my stresses with some quality hours with Amelia my friend Becky's smiley baby. All the weekly worries evaporate when I have an afternoon with Amelia she is the most chilled out adorable little doll you'll ever meet. Hope to be posting something more inspiring later this week.

After my last post I had to share some more lovely pictures from the London store Loop. I don't knit or crochet but my mama does and the next time she visits I'll be sure to take her there to get some lovely supplies. I may have a hard time getting you to leave aye mum? By the way family in Ireland you can comment now I have lifted the weird settings I didn't realise were on my account.

cinnamon smile

Feeling better today. Had an emotional break through and feel quite refreshed now. Thanks to my hubby, loving me long distance from germany x x x and to all of those who left me sweet comments to pick me up out of the doldrums. Another thought making me smile today is about the girl who bought this collection from my Etsy shop. She actually bought two, one for herself and one for a friend to take to a Julie Arkell workshop. I wish I could be there to see what they make.

Bad habits

Since I started my new job and the weather took a turn for the even worse, more wind, more rain, power cut last night, I have been slowly losing momentum. The laundry is piling up, I haven't taken any photos for ages, the dinners are getting a bit lazy, when the husband was away last weekend I survived by eating custard creams! I just feel like life is unravelling around me at the moment. Anyway Dean is away again until Saturday so I will try to sort out the house and get my eating habits back on track. I feel a vegetable fest fast approaching. But I must confess to Heather, Mollie and Charlie I have not yet sent out your banners but I will do so on monday. Sorry about my sombre tone. Tomorrow will be better.

a little gold tread and a lot of sequins

I've had a very long dull day. Maybe if I had one of these outfits I would feel a little better? With my magpie's eye of course I love both of these films. House of flying daggers and Curse of the golden flower. Both are beautiful both are sad. But enough of the sad already, lets focus on the beautiful. If I didn't have four full working days ahead of me I'd start embellishing my vintage dressing gown tonight. With a little gold tread and a lot of sequins.
